Do you paint custom backdrops?

Yes! Oliphant Studio specializes in creating both small and large-scale painted backdrops, including mottled/textured, flat, and scenic designs. A significant part of our work involves painting custom portrait-style backdrops tailored to each client’s specifications. Sarah Oliphant painted the original, iconic portrait backdrops that top photographers have trusted for over 45 years.

Clients may choose between a commissioned rental or an outright purchase for their backdrop(s). For commissioned rentals, the backdrop is custom-painted to the client’s specifications for a one-time use. Afterward, it is returned to our studio, where it remains the exclusive property of Oliphant Studio.

Do you only paint backdrops?

No! We custom paint sets and props for events, photography, video, advertising, runway, retail, weddings, and residential interiors. Our work spans a variety of surfaces, including, but not limited to muslin, canvas, linoleum, ceramic, and all types of wood. With years of experience and expertise, there’s almost nothing we haven’t painted—we’re up for any challenge!

How do I request  a custom  quote?

Please send us an email with your job specifics, including size, potential due date, and any other helpful details. If you have reference images, please include them, as visuals help us better understand your vision. If you’re unsure and would like guidance on your custom project, we’re happy to chat with you!
