Rental FAQs

Where are you located?

We are located at 449 Troutman Street, Suite B, Brooklyn, NY 11237.

Just a 5-minute walk from the Jefferson Street L train station!

What are your hours of operation?

We’re open Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm. If you need immediate assistance outside our regular hours, please call or email the studio, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

How do I rent an Oliphant backdrop?

Take a look at our Backdrop Rental section, which features over 3,000 backdrops categorized by color, design, and size. Each listing includes a photo, dimensions, and a description. When you find backdrops you’re interested in, click “Request Booking” beneath each listing to add it to your Rental Request Form. You may request a hold on up to six backdrops per inquiry. Availability is limited, and our team will confirm your selections and dates upon review.

How can I find the SIZE of my backdrop rental?

Backdrop sizes are listed under each description. For easy transport, our backdrops are always rolled on the shortest side. For example, a 12′ x 24′ drop will be rolled on the 12-foot side, creating a 12-foot-long roll. If you choose a backdrop in a bag, it will be packed in an oversized laundry bag. You can also use the filter in each category to sort by size (or, for bagged drops, by small, medium, or large).

Can I come see the backdrops in person?

We love visiting with our clients and welcome you to view our backdrops in person! To ensure the best experience, we do require you email us to schedule an appointment. Often, we can accommodate same-day visits. To give each backdrop the attention it deserves, we allow up to six to be viewed per visit. When booking your appointment, please let us know which backdrop numbers you'd like to see so we can have them ready for your arrival.

Do you offer DELIVERY, SHIPPING or PICKUP options?

Yes! We offer courier delivery across all five NYC boroughs for an additional fee. Rates vary depending on backdrop size, location, and timing — please email us for a quote. Standard delivery hours are Monday–Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

We also provide domestic shipping for all bagged drops and rolled drops up to 14 feet. Each shipment incurs a $30 packaging fee per backdrop. International shipping is not available at this time for Rentals.

Please note: For orders confirmed fewer than five business days before the rental date, the client is responsible for all quoted shipping costs — even if the delivery is delayed due to weather, airport security, carrier issues, or other transit disruptions.

You're also welcome to arrange your own pickup or messenger. If you go this route, you’ll be responsible for safe transport and proper storage. Please ensure that the vehicle, elevator, and studio or shooting location can accommodate the backdrop's size — especially for larger drops, as not all freight elevators can handle them.

All backdrops are rolled on their shortest side, regardless of orientation.

What is the difference between a backdrop rolled on a TUBE or in a BAG?

Most of our backdrops are rolled on tubes to preserve their painted finish, as folding, creasing, or wrapping them around flats can cause damage. For added versatility and easier transport, we also offer bagged drops, which can be draped and folded. Both rolled and bagged backdrops are available in a wide range of sizes and styles. Bagged drops can fit in any vehicle, while rolled backdrops, especially those 9 feet or longer, typically require a van or truck for transport.

What is the difference between CANVAS, BURLAP, and MUSLIN?

While most of our rolled backdrops are painted on heavyweight canvas, we also offer a selection on muslin and burlap. Muslin, a lighter-weight fabric, has a texture similar to canvas and is often used for bagged drops due to its lighter weight and excellent drapability. Burlap, with its unique open weave, creates a distinct surface texture, allowing small pinholes of light to pass through. For a fully opaque effect, you can attach fabric or seamless paper to the back of burlap to block the light. Take a look at an Oliphant burlap.

What does VINTAGE mean?

When a backdrop is described as vintage, it means it has naturally aged over time, becoming part of photographic history. These backdrops often feature cracks in the paint and gentle color fading, resulting in a beautiful patina and an authenticity that simply can’t be replicated.

What do I do if my rental gets DAMAGED or LOST?

Please contact the studio immediately in the event of loss, theft, or damage. The client is responsible for any replacement or repair fees. Kindly send photos to rentals@ostudio.com so we can assess the situation. Fees will be determined based on the extent of the damage.

Can I alter or clean my backdrop Rental?

Please avoid altering or cleaning your backdrop. Any changes made will require the client to cover repair or replacement costs. If you have any questions or concerns during your shoot, feel free to reach out to the studio first – we’re here to help!

Where can I RENT EQUIPMENT to hang my backdrops?

There are multiple places to rent equipment. For example, check out  ADORAMA and B&H. They have locations in Manhattan & Brooklyn. In addition, most rental photo studios either provide equipment or will have sources for equipment rentals.

Do I get a REFUND if I do not use my rental on my shoot?

Once the backdrop(s) leaves our studio, we are unable to offer a refund, as it has already been booked and prepared for your use.

Can I EXTEND my rental?

Yes, as long as the backdrop isn’t booked by another client for the same dates. Please contact the studio so we can confirm availability and make the necessary arrangements.
